Why Do People Abuse Adderall? The Horrible Epidemic
Why do People Abuse Adderall?
People abuse Adderall for a number of reasons. The number of people abusing Adderall continues to increase at an alarming rate.
It is estimated that anywhere from 20-30% of college students and young adults abuse Adderall. Abusing Adderall has become so common that it has moved into the black market. Adderall and Adderall-like imitators are up nearly 200%.
These astounding numbers continue to quickly rise.
Adderall is referred to as an “upper” and is made of pure amphetamine. It is known for increasing concentration and focus and its effects are not only limited to those diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.
Adderall can induce a sense of happiness and euphoria and has also become a popular recreational drug at parties. Unfortunately, Adderall abuse is more prevalent today than ever.
Is it becoming too easy to obtain Adderall?
It used to be rather easy for a person to obtain an Adderall prescription. More people than you would expect would bend the truth about their “symptoms” in order to convince their doctor to write them a prescription. Since ADD and ADHD can be difficult to pinpoint, many doctors wrote the prescriptions without requiring a thorough examination or test. This can result in both short-term and long-term side effects for the user.
Getting an Adderall prescription became as routine and simple to obtain as your common antibiotic for a seasonal cold.
Eventually, doctors were forced to crack down on writing prescriptions because the Adderall abuse problem had become an epidemic. Unfortunately, this also made it more difficult for those who actually needed the medication to obtain a prescription.
The situation not only created a problem for those needing the medication who were struggling with ADHD symptoms, but it also created a great misconception about the validity of ADD and ADHD in the public eye.
As a result, ADD and ADHD were not viewed seriously and thought to be an “excuse” for young college students to abuse Adderall as a party drug.
While many may feel that people abuse Adderall most frequently on college campuses. However, the fact is that it extends well into adulthood and even into the workplace.
Here's the deal:
While Adderall, Ritalin and other stimulant ADD and ADHD prescription medications may provide some help to alleviate certain ADHD symptoms, there is also a myriad of potential side-effects associated with these drugs.
What companies like Shire (creators of Adderall), also won't tell you is that the drug only addresses a small fraction of the overall symptoms associated with ADD and ADHD. Not only can these drugs exhibit potential short-term side-effects, but they also come with plenty of potential long-term effects, which include, but are not limited to dependency.
Adderall Side Effects
There are many side effects of ADHD prescription medications like Adderall. Symptoms like anxiety and transient depression are only considered “minor” side effects by big pharmaceutical companies.
More serious side effects may include heart palpitations, elevation of blood pressure, Tourette's syndrome, seizures, stroke, psychotic episodes and/or psychosis.
Short Term Side Effects
These are just the short-term side effects. While there are still not as many clinical studies exposing the long-term side effects, people like myself have experienced them first-hand. The dependency eventually catches up to you, the anxiety becomes more debilitating and can create serious issues with depression. Adults with ADHD commonly have other intense emotional or mental disorders associated with their ADHD symptoms.
People Abuse Adderall
People abuse Adderall by taking it orally, snorting it, and although you wouldn't think that people abuse Adderall by smoking it, it also hasn't stopped people from asking about it.
I was prescribed Adderall, Ritalin, and Concerta at different times over the years while I was trying to figure out how to effectively manage my ADHD. Unfortunately, I was unaware of any natural ADHD treatments.
When people abuse Adderall, side effects can be magnified even further.
Here's the deal:
Adderall may help you “concentrate” more, but not in a natural way. It is extremely common for those taking ADHD medications to lose their appetite altogether. I remember literally having to force myself to eat, many days.
While prescription medications like Adderall, may have improved my concentration, they also amplified some of my other ADHD symptoms.
This is a problem that is commonly overlooked.
While Adderall and similar ADHD medications may improve concentration and energy, they fail to allow people with ADD or ADHD to effectively manage many of the other ADHD symptoms.
ADHD Prescription Drugs Can Make Symptoms Worse
In many instances, prescription medications like Adderall can even make certain ADHD symptoms worse.
The boost in concentration and energy does not always improve other common ADHD symptoms, which include disorganization, anxiety, recklessness, impulsivity, restlessness, lateness, prioritization, amongst others.
It can actually make symptoms worse at times. There are many documented cases of people developing additional mood and mental disorders, as well as experiencing dependency. The bottom line is that amphetamines are addictive and can affect a person's natural personality and mood.
It took quite some time for me to recognize that some of my ADHD symptoms were not only getting worse but actually creating more problems than I had before I was prescribed Adderall.
People Abuse Adderall without Even Knowing
There are also cases where people abuse Adderall without even knowing. The typical reaction, especially from someone who has not been formally diagnosed with ADHD or regularly prescribed the medication, can be a feeling of euphoria, energy, and control.
It can make you feel like a rock star and can convince people of a newfound confidence and control. However, it is extremely easy for people to quickly become dependent on Adderall and in some cases, even delusional.
Adderall Abuse Continues
While Adderall and other amphetamine abuse may be a result of recreational use, other people abuse Adderall because they are simply trying to get a mental edge.
Adderall was once referred to as a “smart drug,” but with the potential physical and psychological consequences associated with the ADHD medication, I think we should consider removing the word “smart” from that term.
Do Alternatives to Adderall Exist?
Fortunately, alternatives to Adderall exist. It was a significant motivator behind the development of Focus Here and Now. As someone who has struggled with ADHD for their entire life, I have gone through some difficult trials and tribulations along the way.
I grew up during a time when less research, resources, and general information about the disorder existed. The only answer seemed to be potentially dangerous and highly addictive prescription stimulants like Adderall.
Alternatives to Adderall
However, times have changed and I have changed. While my journey may have been difficult at times, my goal is to provide others with some insight and knowledge about the things that I have discovered along the way that have helped me more effectively manage my ADHD.
These methods have included significant changes to routines, diet, meditation, and implementing natural supplementation, like nootropics. While I won't go as far as saying that nootropics are the cure to ADHD, they provide an excellent and safer alternative to Adderall that has played a significant role in helping me address specific symptoms like focus, concentration, memory, attention, and helped improve overall cognitive function.
Natural Alternatives to Adderall
There are some very effective natural alternatives to Adderall. However, it is very important to understand that while ADD and ADHD still does not have a “cure,” it CAN be effectively managed.
Not only are their natural alternatives to Adderall in the form of natural supplementation, but there are simple, yet effective methods that will help children and adults more effectively manage their ADHD symptoms.
Parenting ADHD children can be a challenge.
However, potentially dangerous ADHD medications like Adderall are NOT the only solution. ImpactADHD has created a phenomenal program that was developed by two Mothers of a total of 6 children with ADHD and other mental disorders. They continue to thrive as one of the most effective resources for parenting ADHD children.
Natural ADHD Alternatives
There also natural alternatives to Adderall that the big pharmaceutical companies would prefer you didn't know about.
People abuse Adderall for a number of reasons. Some for recreational purposes and others who never intended to let it get out of hand. Natural ADHD treatments and alternatives to Adderall are helping to pave the way to reduce an epidemic problem.
Nootropic Alternatives to Adderall
Lately, there have been more brain enhancement supplements containing natural nootropic ingredients appearing on the market. I have done extensive research about the various nootropic supplements and decided to test the most popular nootropics.

Nootropic supplements are becoming a safer alternative for college students and young adults looking for cognitive enhancement.
A high-quality nootropic supplement can provide a significant increase to focus, concentration, memory, and overall cognitive functions. However, some are better than others, which is pointed out in the nootropic reviews.

Why Do People Abuse Adderall?
So, why do people abuse Adderall? In some cases, it is for the same reason people abuse other hard drugs.
Adderall often serves as a gateway drug to harder narcotics like Cocaine, Heroin, Ecstacy, etc. It can be very addictive and flat-out dangerous.
I don't miss treating my ADHD symptoms with stimulants, whatsoever. When I was taking ADHD stimulant medications, I wasn't truly able to scratch the surface to properly manage my ADHD symptoms.
There are practices that you can put in place to treat ADHD in both children and adults without turning to harmful “quick-fix” stimulant prescriptions.
Hopefully, as more research is done in the ADHD community and safer alternative supplements continue to hit the market, fewer people will continue to abuse Adderall.
