Brain Health Supplements: A Great Way to Boost Mental Clarity?
Guide To Brain Health Supplements That Work
Brain health supplements continue to gain popularity among the masses. More people are seeking ways to improve cognitive functioning and overall brain health.
The neuroscience community continues to make groundbreaking discoveries about overall brain health and ways that we can enhance and repair cognitive functioning.
This is leading to the discovery of new and effective ways to improve our mental capabilities while protecting the brain and preventing cognitive decline.
Finding the best brain health supplements can sometimes prove to be difficult.
How do you know which supplements will work best for your personal needs and goals?
Unfortunately, some brain health supplement companies spend more time, money, and effort on marketing than they do on the quality of their products.
SPOILER ALERT ABOUT BRAIN HEALTH SUPPLEMENTS:
There is no magic pill that is going to turn you into a genius like Bradley Cooper's character from the movie, “Limitless!”
However, there are brain health supplements that can improve different aspects of cognitive functioning. This includes supplements that improve concentration, increase focus and attention, enhance memory, reduce anxiety and stress, and improve the overall quality of brain health.
Through years of personal experience and scientific research, we have put together a list of some of the best brain health supplements we have tested and reviewed that have proven to be both safe and effective.
It is nearly impossible to consume some of the essential nutrients through diet alone and this is why supplementation becomes necessary.
Effective Brain Health Supplements
1. Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids –
The Harvard School of Public Health states that 99% of the population is omega-3 deficient and that there is an unrecognized deficiency of epidemic proportions. (1) DHA, which is found in Omega-3 Fish oil supplements is one of the major building blocks of the brain.
Taking an essential fatty acid supplement is one of the best things that you can do for your brain.
Recent studies, based on years of research have shown that fatty acid supplementation has played a major factor in improving attention deficit disorders, such as ADHD.
It has also been shown to improve memory loss, dementia, depression, mood swings, and even help symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
Fish oils are also essential for ADHD
Not all fatty acid supplements are created equal. My number 1 recommendation that I personally use continues to be Dr. Tobias' Omega -3 Fish Oil. It is superior to the common Omega-3 supplement you will find on the shelves of your local drug store.
It contains high levels of DHA to EPA and provides significant cognitive and overall health benefits.
Be sure to look for higher DHA levels. This is one of my go-to daily supplements.
It is an extremely safe supplement that I would highly recommend to anyone with ADHD or otherwise and should be taken daily.
Seek high quality, as opposed to simply picking up the cheapest one at your local drug store. The difference is significant and the primary reason that I only use Dr. Tobias' fish oils.
2. Vitamin D As A Brain Health Supplement –
I can't believe how long it took me to finally start supplementing Vitamin D on a regular basis.
I had truly been missing out on another essential and safe supplement. Most people are also Vitamin D deficient.
Vitamin D has been shown to boost mood, hinder depression, improve memory and even heighten problem-solving abilities.
I personally noticed a positive change in my overall mood within a couple days of taking a high-quality Vitamin D supplement.
Consume more Vitamin D
Consuming sufficient levels of Vitamin D has also been found to serve as protection against diseases that include different types of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
It is estimated that over 1 billion people worldwide are Vitamin D deficient.
I like the Vitamin D Gummy's from Vitafusion.
Besides the fact that they actually taste great, each gummy delivers 2,000IU of Vitamin D, providing adequate effects and a noticeable difference.
It's one of the easiest daily supplements to take and one that makes a fairly immediate impact. It is a simple brain health supplement to use daily and I can all but guarantee that you very well may fall into the category of Vitamin D deficient people across the world.
3. Antioxidant Brain Foods and Brain Health Supplements –
Your brain is highly susceptible to free radical damage because of the disproportionate amount of oxygen it uses.
Antioxidants are extremely important for optimal brain function.
Here's the deal about Antioxidants:
Antioxidants can be found in plant-based foods with berries containing the most potent proportions. One of my favorite brain foods are blueberries for their antioxidant benefits. They are one of the best types of brain foods to consume.
Although you can probably consume your daily requirements of antioxidants through a dose of 9 servings of fruits and vegetables, it is not always feasible with a busy lifestyle.
Chews-4-Health for the Brain
One of the most effective antioxidant supplements I have found is called Chews-4-Health. Specifically, their Super Antioxidant Mix is second to none in delivering potent and effective antioxidant levels.
Chews-4-Health has been one of the best-kept kept secrets that I came across. Their products not only serve as excellent brain health supplements but also as an excellent source of brain food.
How it Works
Outside of consuming 9 servings of blueberries per day, I have yet to find anything else that delivers anything close to the benefits of this supplement.
These top 3 mentions are some of the easiest, safest, and most essential brain health supplements that make a significant difference in overall cognitive function. They provide the perfect place to start improving overall brain health on a daily basis.
However, there are more potent and powerful options to take cognitive enhancement to the next level. These are the brain health supplements that have been taking the world by storm because of the growing positive response that has been reported.
4. Nootropic Supplements
More research continues to show the incredible benefits that nootropic brain health supplements can provide. There are various ways to supplement nootropics into your diet.
L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine is the full scientific name for the more commonly abbreviated and referred, GPC, which is a form of choline that is more easily absorbed.
This nootropic is closely related to the B-complex vitamin family. It produces vital nutrients for overall brain development and healthy brain cell membranes. Alpha GPC is known to help treat certain diseases, such as Alzheimer's and is used to enhance memory and cognition.
Huperzine A is often considered one of the most effective natural nootropics and is commonly found in various nootropic stacks and compounds, but can also be taken on its own.
This herbal compound helps to facilitate learning and improves working memory. Essentially, this alkaloid blocks an enzyme in the brain that breaks down the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, which is a key component for improving learning, memory, focus and other functions of the brain. Huperzine A works synergistically with other nootropics, helping ton potentiate their overall effects.
This natural nootropic has been one of the most commonly used brain health supplements for thousands of years. It is proven to boost memory, enhance cognitive ability and improve overall brain health.
Bacopa is known as one of the closest things to natural piracetam and while it can offer some benefits alone, it makes an especially great addition to a nootropic stack.
This semi-synthetic alkaloid provides many benefits for improving mental capacity and performance. Vinpocetine is another natural nootropic that effectively improves memory, learning, and even age-related cognitive impairments, such as, Alzheimer's Disease. It also helps to boost concentration.
This is one of the most standard nootropics that many people consider to be an essential nootropic supplement that should be taken every day.
This powerful neuroprotective agent and antioxidant derived from the amino acid, L-Carnitine. These brain health supplements are used for a variety of conditions, including brain development disorders. It is known for fighting mental fatigue.
It is also utilized to naturally treat ADHD to help more effectively manage ADHD symptoms.
Years of research has revealed that it can improve focus, mood, mental clarity, and memory. It has also been shown to provide anti-aging effects on the brain.
ALCAR is complimented quite effectively in the CILTEP supplement that we recently reviewed.
Nootropic Supplements and Nootropic Stacks
There are tons of nootropic brain health supplements hitting the market. Some work better than others.
Unfortunately, some savvy marketing and misleading campaigns have pushed forward focusing more efforts on their marketing campaigns than towards the quality of their products.
These nootropic supplements and nootropic stacks are commonly referred to as, “smart drugs.”
Technically, prescription medications like Adderall, Ritalin, and Vyvanse are “smart drugs,” too.
Personally, I don't really like the term “smart drug.”
But, Here's The Deal about nootropics:
High-quality nootropic supplements and stacks can absolutely provide a significant boost to overall cognitive functioning, memory, learning, focus, concentration, and overall brain health.
I have spent over 4 years testing and reviewing some of the most popular nootropic supplements on the market, today. We consistently update our nootropic supplement reviews page with information about the latest brain health supplements to be released.
Some of the nootropic compound (stacks) supplements that work more effectively for the masses have included Qualia, Awaken, iQ2, Alpha Brain, OptiMind, Nitrovit, CILTEP, Nexus and Mitogen, and truBrain. Each nootropic stack is unique and provides different types of cognitive benefits.
Free Brain Supplements
While testing and reviewing various nootropics and experimenting recently with different nootropic stacks, I realized that many people like me, simply don't know what to expect from these brain health supplements.
I get it and I understand why some people would be hesitant to spend anywhere from $45-100+ to purchase a brain supplement that they are not even sure will work for them.
You Can Try Certain Nootropics for FREE
Therefore, I reached out to these companies, urging them to allow me to provide our readers with an opportunity to try their products before committing to a full purchase or subscription price.
Although not all of them agreed, I was able to arrange a limited time offer with a couple of companies that will allow you to try their product for FREE!
OptiMind Nootropic Supplement
OptiMind has continued to be one of the top nootropic brain health supplements that I recommend. It works especially well for beginners to the nootropic supplement world.
OptiMind is a safe and subtle, but noticeable nootropic stack that appeals to the masses and can be taken daily.
After weeks of discussing the product with the company and testing it for a full month, I was FINALLY able to convince them to put their money where their mouth is!
You can now try OptiMind for nearly two weeks for FREE!
The best thing about OptiMind is that it is a brain health supplement that you will more than likely know whether it is working for you or not within the first few days. You don't need to wait a month to figure it out.
The OptiMind Review
Please let me know how it works out for you. I would like to get some feedback about other people's experiences with this one to do a follow up in the near future. You will also notice that many of the nootropic ingredients that I've mentioned above are included as part of the Optimind nootropic stack.
If you are new to nootropics, it's a great place to start! I decided to sweeten the deal a little further and personally purchased two bottles of OptiMind, which I will be randomly giving away to two lucky people. A very different and high-quality nootropic stack comes from the makers of truBrain.
What I liked about truBrain is the fact that it was not only developed by a highly qualified neuroscience team, but they also backed up their claims with extensive research and case studies.
As I outlined in the truBrain review, this nootropic stack was developed by utilizing some of the most potent and powerful nootropic ingredients.
The truBrain Review
TruBrain, like OptiMind, has become a staple among high-level business executives and entrepreneurs to provide that extra mental edge and clarity.
The free trial offer that we arranged with truBrain has ended. However, you can try truBrain for just $10.

IQ2 continues to work more effectively the longer you use it. It is known for increasing focus, concentration, attention, mental energy, mood, memory, motivation, reducing stress, and boosting overall cognitive function.
Unique Nootropic Supplements
Best nootropic brain health supplement for ADHD?
We reviewed Nitrovit for an entire month after reading claims that it was one of the best nootropics for ADHD symptoms. I provide a comprehensive review of the month-long test of the Nitrovit nootropic supplement. It was developed by someone with ADHD and for others with ADHD. They have a dedicated neuroscience team that designed this unique nootropic brain health supplement.
CILTEP is a nootropic supplement that really surprised me. Not only does it work, it works fast! That is probably one of the reasons it has been so heavily endorsed by Martin Jacobsen, the WSOP Champion, as his go-to supplement for poker tournaments.
Although I wouldn't recommend taking CILTEP every single day because it is best to cycle, it is a great stack that can also be supplemented with other nootropics.
The same people who created the popular supplement, CILTEP, developed a subsidiary company that produces products more specifically geared at brain enhancement. The Nexus and Mitogen advanced nootropic stacks were two of the most potent and powerful supplements that I had tried to date. Read the full review of Nexus and Mitogen, here.
Having trouble sleeping?
An overactive mind and/or ADHD symptoms are commonly associated with sleep problems, sleep deprivation, and/or even bouts of insomnia. The same people who created OptiMind, released nootropic sleep aid that may be one of the most effective sleeping pills that I have tried to date. It not only helps you fall asleep but allows you to wake up without the brain fog and grogginess. The best part? You can try RestUp for FREE and decide if it is right for you before buying it.
Mind HD is one of the best all-natural nootropic supplements that we have found. It also comes at a very reasonable price of less than $20 a bottle. Check out the Mind HD review to find out what makes this natural nootropic supplement so effective.
One of the most popular nootropic supplements on the market. We had received countless requests to review Alpha Brain over the past year. Find out if Alpha Brain makes the grade and actually works! It is especially known for noticeably increasing focus and memory. Alpha Brain was one of the pioneers to bring nootropic supplements to the mainstream.
Creating Your OWN Nootropic Stacks
Those that are more advanced and knowledgeable about nootropics, commonly choose to create their own nootropic stacks.
It is something that I have considered for a while, but I was a little put-off by the large bags of nootropic powders and concoctions that would be necessary for me to create my own through every vendor that I could find.
Since I felt that the process was more like a science experiment, I continued to hold off on those experiments…until now!
How to build your own nootropic stack
We recently developed our own shop of the highest individual nootropic supplements you find anywhere, right here in our very own”Nootropics City.”
If you have absolutely no idea where to start when it comes to building your own nootropic stack, allow us to take the guesswork out for you for free. Simply fill out the brief form to receive a customized nootropic stack for free that will best meet your personal needs and goals.
What is a Nootropic Stack?
Essentially, a nootropic stack is combining two or more supplements that specifically target beneficial effects on the brain. This may include memory, learning, focus, motivation, mood, sleep, anxiety, concentration, comprehension, and others in order to create a synergistic effect in the brain that is greater, more potent, and addresses more than one specific need or goal.
Since everyone is different and has different needs and goals, creating your own nootropic stack or taking a nootropic supplement, like the ones mentioned above, which are different variations of nootropic stacks, have shown to provide additional benefits beyond a single nootropic brain health supplement by itself.
What makes Nootropics City at Focus Here and Now Different?
The thing that makes our Nootropics City nootropic shop at Focus Here and Now so different is the fact that the measurements of each individual nootropic are done for you and encapsulated.
Instead of worrying about measuring powders and making multiple drinks each day, you simply take capsules for each nootropic ingredient you would like to add to your nootropic stack. I find this to be MUCH easier and MUCH more accurate.
In my opinion, you shouldn't have to worry about measuring exact amounts into a liquid and be able to focus on creating a nootropic stack that is right for you.
They are the only nootropic supplement company that I know of that offers all of their nootropics in capsules, which I felt was an easier and a safer bet to try.
There are many different types of nootropics and many people believe that creating personalized nootropic stacks is so incredibly effective because you are able to supplement each nootropic, based on your personal needs and goals.
Personal Goals and Needs?
For example, if you are looking to increase immediate and long-term focus and have a particularly daunting test or project ahead of you, you may add Phenylpiracetam to your stack.
Need to fight off the sleep monster? You may look into Adrafinil, which provides very similar effects to the popular prescription medication, Modafinil or Provigil.
The owner and operator of the site will even personally help you create and understand a nootropic stack that is right for you.
You will find that Nootropics City has a ton of useful information that specifically explains what each nootropic is and what it is supposed to do.
You will find nootropics that can significantly improve focus, memory, reduce stress and anxiety, help with sleep, improve learning and concentration and much more.
Personally, I love their sample combo packs. They have a variety of sample packs to suit the needs of beginners and those that are more knowledgeable about nootropic supplementation.
Plus, this allows you to try certain nootropics to gauge how well or not they may work for you, before committing to purchasing a full bottle.
Not All Nootropic Supplements are Created Equal!
Unfortunately, I have more than a couple reviews to follow that outline what you should be trying to avoid when looking for effective brain health supplements.
Nootropic Supplements to AVOID!
Some companies focus more on a name or a target market than they do on the actual quality of the product. This has included experiences that I have had with products like, eVo (who basically claim they sell the “Real NZT-48” from the movie, Limitless), Neurofuse, Focus Factor, AddieUp, and others.
This can also result in questionable or even potentially dangerous ingredients being introduced into their formulas.
Essentially, a ton of stimulants may be added to make people believe their supplements are more effective than may actually be the case. Here is one of those examples:
To be perfectly blunt, I hated the name and didn't care much for the product, either.
However, it provides a perfect example of what to avoid, when considering brain health supplements. You can see why I do NOT believe this is necessarily the best alternative to Adderall in the AddieUp review.
There are certain nootropics and brain supplements that should be avoided altogether.
Some companies have no shame in pulling out underhanded marketing techniques and even lying about their products being endorsed by celebrities or respected publications. It is just as important to be aware of these companies. Check out the brain supplements you should avoid, here.
Conclusion about Brain Health Supplements
A healthy diet and exercise are essential to maintaining a healthy brain. However, we cannot realistically consume all of the nutrients, herbs or nootropics that our brains need to perform at an optimal level.
Brain health supplements can significantly assist us in the areas that we either fall short, would like to improve, and/or need to prevent cognitive decline.
One of my goals has continued to be testing and reviewing various brain health supplements to determine which of these supplements actually work!
Please never hesitate to drop me a line, if there are particular nootropics or other brain supplements that you would like to know more about. I have reviewed specific requests in the past and will continue to do so moving forward!
