One study, published in the Psychological Bulletin, combined the findings of 163 different studies, found that mindfulness and meditation significantly reduced anxiety and stress.
Another study at the Department of Psychology at Boston University found mindfulness was an effective tool for managing many different types of anxiety and stress, ranging anywhere from people who were cancer patients to those struggling with ADHD and social anxiety disorder.

The core idea of meditation is to sit quietly and focus your attention on an external object or stimulus (like a repeated word or breathing pattern). You step out of yourself and become more detached.
The first option is “concentration meditation,” which needs a quiet environment and an object to focus on, for example, a word such as “calm” or “peace,” or a short sound such as “omm.”
Repeat the phrase or sound over and over in a standard pattern.
Once on the inhale breath and once on the exhaled breath.
Try to adopt a passive attitude, where you just let the distracting thoughts leave your mind as fast as they entered. You’re not doing anything other than repeating the phrase and becoming more aware of the moment.
The second meditative technique is called “awareness meditation.”
Here you focus on each new event that happens in your mind, such as a thought or fear.
Observe each idea, and give it a name. If you become aware of your facial tension, just give it a name: facial tension. You don’t need to analyze it or offer comments. You’re aiming to follow the pattern of your perceptions.
